Annabelle Nequatewa weaving a plaited sifter basket

Description:

Annabelle Nequatewa of Shungopovi weaves a sifter basket. A suuvi (sumac) ring was attached to the basket to help curve the mooho (yucca) strands upwards to give the basket its shape. Dyed yucca strands of different colors can be seen showing how Annabelle weaves the pattern into the basket. Scanned on a Nikon Supercool Scan 9000 at 4000 DPI. Photoshop was used to clean up dust specks via cloning and reformatted from TIFF to JPEG. Digitizing Technician: Michael William Jenkins.
