Annabelle Nequatewa bending mooho (yucca) blades over a suuvi (sumac) ring to weave a sifter basket

Summary:
Selected photographs from Helga Teiwes' series documenting Hopi basket weaving.
Description:

Annabelle Nequatewa of Shungopovi bends mooho (yucca) blades down over the suuvi (sumac) ring with her left hand as she pulls the string tight with her right hand to hold them in place. The sumac ring that helps shape the basket can be seen. Dyed yucca strands can be seen and show how Annabelle weaves the pattern into the basket. Scanned on a Nikon Supercool Scan 9000 at 4000 DPI. Photoshop was used to clean up dust specks via cloning and reformatted from TIFF to JPEG. Digitizing Technician: Michael William Jenkins.
