A plaited, green mooho (yucca) mat for a sifter basket

Summary:
Selected photographs from Helga Teiwes' series documenting Hopi basket weaving.
Description:

This is the green mooho (yucca) mat for a sifter basket that Annabelle Nequatewa of Shungopovi is making using the plaiting technique. The suuvi (sumac) ring sits in the center ready to be used to help bend the yucca strands to shape the basket. The undyed tips of the yucca strands can also be seen sticking out of all four sides. Scanned on a Nikon Supercool Scan 9000 at 4000 DPI. Photoshop was used to clean up dust specks via cloning and reformatted from TIFF to JPEG. Digitizing Technician: Michael William Jenkins.
