Half-Finished Burden Basket

Summary:
Selected photographs from Helga Teiwes' series documenting Arizona native basketry traditions.
Description:

Cecilia Henry sits in front of her house in Peridot, holding a half-finished burden basket. The basket is unfinished because Cecilia ran out of "sticks", willow twigs or cottonwood. She is using both in this basket because they cannot find enough willow after the October 1983 flood washed away many willow trees in the San Carlos wash. They have to get the willow now from Whiteriver. The negatives in this collection were scanned on an Epson Expression 10000 XL. The file sizes range from 107.8 MB to 212.1 MB at a resolution of 1600 dpi. The original TIFF scans were converted to JPEGs using ACDSee Photo Manager 12 in March 2012. Digitizing Technician: Lana K. Tupponce.
