Viola Taylor Making a Small, Willow Burden Basket

Summary:
Selected photographs from Helga Teiwes' series documenting Arizona native basketry traditions.
Description:

Viola Taylor weaves a small burden basket (half-finished in the Arizona State Museum collection). Two large burden baskets, sold the day before to the Peridot Trading Post, are on the bed and hang from the door behind Viola. Baskets were brought back from the Trading Post for these photos. One basket is of traditional weave and unbleached buckskin; the other one has two deer in each quarter and orange dyed buckskin. The negatives in this collection were scanned on an Epson Expression 10000 XL. The file sizes range from 107.8 MB to 212.1 MB at a resolution of 1600 dpi. The original TIFF scans were converted to JPEGs using ACDSee Photo Manager 12 in March 2012. Digitizing Technician: Lana K. Tupponce.
